“New & Improved” Sick Leave Policy?

sick Leave 2Centennial has a “new & improved” Sick Leave Policy. One of the most disturbing parts of this policy states that:

“While on STD benefits, an employee is expected to reside at his/her normal place of residence…” “Benefit payments will cease when the employee…is absent from his/her normal place of residence without giving prior written notification and obtaining written permission..”

Since the dictionary defines reside as “to live in a place permanently or for an extended period” and defines absent as “not in a certain place at a given time; away, missing (opposed to present), as in absent from class”, do the above statements make sense? Are they fair?

As support staff we know that statements such as these always apply to us but rarely (if ever) do they apply to anyone else.
